About Me

I am glad that you are here.  As an optimistic psychotherapist with over 35 years of mental health experience, I believe in the human capacity for tapping into a deep source of inner wisdom and healing from difficult life experiences. Each one of us, myself included, can develop self-knowledge and self-acceptance through bringing a compassionate and curious perspective to our lives, which positively influences growth and change.

Much of my career has involved supporting people who are experiencing challenges in their life in terms of feeling stuck in patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that feel repetitive. Feelings of frustration and hopelessness can show up when we don’t understand why we are feeling stuck. I have witnessed many client's journeys over the years who see positive changes in terms of feeling more hopeful, reassured, not alone and content with how they navigate life. Moving from feeling like there is no choice to having more freedom in choice, helps to create wellness and contentment.  I am happy to help you discover more about you.

On a personal note, I enjoy being outside near the ocean whenever possible and kayaking is a favorite activity.  My husband and I are blessed to have two grown children who are on their own interesting journeys in life and we have fun hanging out with our energetic PWD, Joey! The older I get the more I understand that connection with the ones you love unconditionally, who love you back unconditionally, in combination with the love you feel for yourself, is an integral part of healing.

My Services

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

You might be interested in individual therapy if you would  like to feel less reactive and stuck in patterns that are creating difficulty in your life. Feeling   calmer, more content and having  more clarity about who you are helps with wellness. Utilizing  systemic and experiential approaches can assist you in having more choice in freedom in how you think, feel and act. I have been fortunate to have training in many modalities throughout the years and primarily work from a therapy called Internal Family Systems (IFS).  IFS is an empowering, compassionate and non-pathologizing approach to healing and self discovery through exploration of our inner lives.  IFS is a powerful model of transformation and a lifelong approach to wellness.

COUPLE THERAPY

As a therapist who has been married for almost 33 years I can personally and professionally say that all couples can feel reactive and stuck in patterns that create difficulty in their relationship. This is normal. Sometimes however couples have great difficulty in figuring out what is keeping them unhappy and engaged in patterns that create a lack of trust and communication challenges that cause a great deal of distress. I have found that utilizing modalities in therapy such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS and IFIO) modalities and John Gottman's perspective, helps couples understand attachment challenges they have with one another and themselves. You can understand your own patterns and heal your relationship from the inside out. I would be honored to help.

THERAPIST CONSULTATION

I provide consultation and mentorship for therapists who would like to meet individually or in groups. My focus in consultation is to help therapists find their own sense of intuition and confidence as they develop case conceptualization skills and model of therapy.  I primarily work from an Internal Family Systems perspective and focus on an attachment lens.  I do not provide supervision at this time.

"She takes time to mentor and guide emerging counsellors, helping them develop both practical skills and the confidence to excel in this challenging work. Her supervision and training have helped shape the next generation of clinicians with empathy, skill, and thoughtfulness".

"Her deep knowledge base and clear clinical thinking have been invaluable to the team, especially when navigating particularly sensitive or challenging cases"

SPECIALTY SERVICES

Support for post secondary students who are feeling challenged with their studies and academic success.  Issues related to motivation, procrastination, time management and effective communication are often key issues that students struggle with. Functional style resume writing design is often a more professional presentation than a chronological style of resume. Potential employers are more likely to have interest and focus on easily reviewed and clear resumes. Let's start with a chat to see if a review of your current resume could be better presented through a functional style.
